Stay Connected: Why Your Info Matters More Than You Think

Your Contact Info Is More Than Just a Detail

As a member of the Musicians' Pension Fund of Canada, your personal information, especially your home address, email, and beneficiary details, is essential to ensuring you receive the benefits you've earned. Whether you're actively working or enjoying retirement, keeping your information up to date helps us stay in touch and serve you better.

Every year, we encounter cases where members miss out on important updates [or even benefit payments] simply because we couldn’t reach them. A small oversight like forgetting to update your email or mailing address can have big consequences.

What Happens If We Can’t Reach You?

It’s easy to overlook a change of address or forget to update your email, but the consequences can be serious:

  • Missed Benefit Payments: If we can’t reach you, we may not be able to process or deliver your pension payments. This can lead to delays or even suspension of benefits.

  • Termination Notices: Members who don’t respond to important notices—like those about plan termination—could lose access to benefits they’ve earned.

  • Lost Opportunities: Updates about plan changes, new benefits, or deadlines might never reach you, leaving you out of the loop.

  • Beneficiary Confusion: If your beneficiary information is outdated, your loved ones may face delays or complications in receiving benefits. In some cases, benefits may be paid to someone you no longer intend to designate.

Imagine a scenario where a member passes away, but their listed beneficiary is no longer valid—or worse, missing entirely. This can lead to unnecessary stress, legal delays, and even lost benefits. Keeping your beneficiary information current is one of the most important things you can do to protect your legacy.

Even if you haven’t had major life changes recently, it’s worth reviewing your records. Marriages, divorces, births, and deaths can all affect who you want listed as your beneficiary. And if you’ve moved or changed your email address, we need to know.

Do you need to update your contact information with us?
Here’s a quick checklist you can use for your peace of mind.

  • Has your mailing address changed in the last few years?

  • Are you using a new email address or phone number?

  • Have your family circumstances changed (e.g., marriage, divorce, children)?

  • Do you know who your current beneficiary is?

If anything of this information has changed, just let us know!
